Guy - Thanks for the XPS tip and link. Will look into it out ofcreate a calculation that returns a global of the correct type (text if the
curiousity even though the virtual printer approach with doPDF is
doing the job so well. (Hey, if I'm not careful, I might learn
something.)
Martin - So, your use of FM variables is for building file names, not
for PDF generation. Thanks. Still wonder why variables (like
$$MyCalcResult) cannot be displayed in text on layouts.
variable is text etc)
cMyVar < text ; $$MyCalcResult > and put this on your layout
keep well, Ursus
Thanks, Ursus. Tried what you suggested and some variations on it,
but no go.
There's no problem if a field is established to hold the value, and
that's how I've handled it. If a field is used, changing values
display nicely within text on a layout.
I'm curious as to why FM seems unable to use its variables that way,
given that they are already in memory. Can FM display a variable's
value within text on a layout without creating a field? In other
words, can FM use a "set variable" or a "let" step to create a
variable and assign it a value, without putting into a field, and then
have that value display within some text on a layout?
According to Data Viewer, the variable is created and holds the right
value. Why can't FM show that value on a layout directly?
Using FM 85A on WinXP-SP2.
