Thanks, Howard. I looked at that and can see the use. However, I often see it in Layouts in the Starter Databases supplied by FileMaker where there is no apparent intent to merge anything. They must be using it to achieve some other effect. I'm wondering what the advantage is as opposed to just using a field.
For example, see the "To Do List" layout in the Campus Productivity Kit.
We sometimes use it when it is just meant to be part of the layout design -- no editing or searching in it, it is just layout text. Makes it easier to see the difference from fields in layout mode. There is probably no must-do reason for its use in the productivity kit.
