I have a database that's in FileMaker Pro. I bought an application
that used it because it seemed to be a solution to my problem of
cataloging my huge vinyl/CD/cassette/DVD/VHS/book collection. The
software worked about half way what I wanted but I knew it was done in
FileMaker and I figured I could hack it and do what I needed to do.
Well, that was a few years ago and the company who produced it has
gone out of business and ignores my efforts to contact them. Even
though I could never get my vinyl easily catalogued I did have over
500 CDs entered because they were looked up automatically. (The
database used CDDB for information but I thought it didn't make enough
use of the info.)
I have gotten 50-75 more CDs since then and I want to add them to the
database. I have also always wanted to create my own reports with the
data. I would also like to use this database as a springboard to
something that really works, for my own use with all the other media I
have.
I have tried other cataloging software but most are for cataloging
info on data CDs and DVDs. A good idea for sure but what ever happened
to music/books and movies? There has to be something out there that
does that. So far I can't find anything so I want to make my own using
what I have started in Filemaker.
Anyway, after all that , what my problem is I can't hack into the
data base that is already built and I can't add any CDs because the on
line database, CDDB, no longer answers to this software.
Can anyone help me with hacking the database so I can use it and add
to it? It has been a while since I have done any FileMaker but If you
start me in the right direction maybe I could straighten things out to
my satisfaction. I could send you a copy of the thing when/if I get it
working.
Rather than hack, write your own... if you learn enough to hack, then you
can certainly create a DB that meets your needs.
