hi all

I have just upgraded from v4 to v8, and the replace command now has
problems.
If a user is in a record, then it is locked, and the replace command
says "3 records were locked and were not updated".
1. the records are not really in use, they are not being edited by the
user. It is just by chance that for some reason the cursor is being
left in fields on certain forms. This is often not due to a user
action but due to a copy or paste script step.
Change your scripts so this doesn't happen.
Only with a plug in.
Q.can we force the user out of the record?
Q.can a record automatically be 'committed' when the form loses focus?
(coming from v3 originally, this solution has 50 files rather than 1
file with 50 tables)
You may want to look at your db structure. Do you really need 50
tables?
You can script navigation to force a record commit.
2.if we can't force the cursor out of a record, can the replace
command let me know which records couldn't be updated? - it must know.
No. You can script the replace with a Loop and Set Field and capture
the errors though.
finally - startup time on server4 was 1 minute. startup time on
server8 it 2.5 minutes. what gives?
successive editions of Filemaker have been successively slower.
