Grant, Remi-Noel:
I have no solution for you but I can share my own experience. Last
February I upgraded a 7-user FMP6.0 peer-to-peer sharing environment to
FMP8.0 hosted on FMP8 Server. The department printer is an HP 4260
using PCL6.
Immediately, those workstations using current 4260 drivers experienced
a crippling printing slowdown. Workstations with 4000 PCL6 drivers
installed were fine. I replicated this issue repeatedly. Filemaker
support had no solution or even awareness of the problem.
I band-aided by downgrading the current to the older drivers. This will
become an issue when we upgrade or re-image the PC's as our tech staff
will naturally and appropriately install the most current printer
drivers.
It seems that some underlying printing functionality changed from 6.0
to 8.0 but there is zero info in FM knowledgebase and nothing in
Googleland about it.
Food for thought.

Hi Remi-Noel,
Yes, have done almost everything imaginable to test this issue...
What we do know, is that Word can print 40 pages to the Xerox fine, FM7.5
can print 20+ pages to the Xerox just fine...
FM8.5 can print 20+ pages to a HP just fine... but it can't print more than
2 or 3 pages to the Xerox...
This is a seriously stupid problem, I am pretty flustered by the total lack
of support on offer by FM - we have pretty much determined (99.9999%) that
it's a FM8.5 issue and nothing else, but they just don't seem capable of
offering us any sort of response.
:-(
Thanks for your input though!

The first thing to do when having a problem with a printer is to get to
latest driver possible and install it in place of the existing driver. A
'clean install', ie to be precise to uninstall everything first and then
reinstall from scratch.
But it seems that you did it, didn't you ?
You may also try to install the simplest driver Xeros can provide ( with
HP printers some problems went away by using the driver for the old HP IV,
which seems logical with what you said on PCL6..., so can't you use the
same logic with Xeros ?).
Did you try to print with another printer ?
Sorry of not helping much.

Hi everyone,
A client of our has recently had their FileMaker database upgraded from 7
to 8.5 - this is running on Windows XP Pro.
Since the upgrade, they have not been able to print anymore than 2 pages
out of reports.
i.e. if a report is 1 or 2 pages, it prints fine, if a report is 3, 4, 5
or greater pages, they are lucky if they get the first 2 pages, sometimes
they are even luckier and get 3 pages, but never the full report.
The subsequent pages come out blank.
They are printing to a Xerox C525A printer.
Xerox has said this may be some coding issues, as the Xerox C525A is a
GDI device, whereas the majority of printers (HP etc.) are still the old
PCL6 device engine.
Has anyone else had this problem, does FM have a fix for this problem?
We have so far gotten no where with the local FM support.
Thanks,
