Re: Update size

I've nothing to offer on the download problem, I'm afraid. I have broadband,
and I must admit that I didn't even notice the size.

As for why to upgrade, though...

There's info on what's been enhanced/fixed on each of the download pages,
but here's my experience: with v1, there was a risk of lost indexes. This
resulted in searches not performing as expected, and links being broken
between tables. Once identified, these were fairly easy to fix (take off the
index option and put it back on), but depending upon how critical the
application and data are, this could be a pretty serious problem between the
loss of the index and identifying the problem.

On the other hand, v2 and even v3 seem to search unindexed (and related)
fields much more slowly, so there's a tradeoff.

Just my 2 cents.

Hi all..

Please feel free to ignore or flame me..

I am a bit miffed that in order to download the updates to FM 8 I have
to download a 200MB file - I live in New Zealand, and here broadband is
nowhere near as common as other countries - hell, I don't even *know*
anyone here who has broadband at home, so because my FM work is a
hobby, I do it at home, hence dial up..

It would probably take me over 24 hours to download a file that size,
and since I share a phone line, that simply isn't practical.. If a
download's more than 120mb I am stuffed!!

Oh, PS, can someone tell me why I need this particular update anyway? I
know the first question if you have problems is, have you the latest
version, but it doesn't seem to have that much good stuff in it..

Anyway, that's my rant for the day..

byeeeee

Chris
