If you're on a Mac, you can do what you're asking using apple script. You would export the file to a location eg. the desktop, then FileMaker would run a dynamic apple script which renamed the file and attached it to a new e-mail message.
this has been one of version 8's wonders! you're still 'stuck' defining the file reference ahead of time, but you can pre-define it as a variable, then set the variable just before the call. works like a charm, and eliminates one of Filemaker's previous serious shortcomings.
8 does that a lot, superb upgrade, best upgrade since version 4, *highly* recommended!
in v 6, you're stuck with Applescripting as above, which unfortunately restricts your solutions to Mac only.
