Help with portal

I have a database in FMP8v2 with a self join relationship to show related
records through a portal. The portal shows the 5 most recent related
records based on self join relationship through field XXXX. My question is:
how can I make a button in each line of the portal to populate the current
record with the data from the appropriate related record that is shown in
the portal.

Thanx for any help. I am sure it is simple I just havent been able to make
the light click on for me yet ;)
