Re: FM6 Networking problem

OK, now that we have setup the bases, we should now look to other things
:
- you'd better assign a fixed IP on PC-A. You know how tov do that do
you ? It should be 192.168.0.100 for instance, plus Sub network set as
255.255.255.0, then Gateway with the router address, something like
192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 depending of the brand, as this is on the
range of a private local area network LAN. Don't forget to write the DNS
IPs of your Internet provider.
- there maybe now a lot of firewalls, you'd have to open. Try first to
chase them and disconnect every of them such as XP SP2 firewall, Norton
Internet Security (this one I don't like), ZoneAlarm maybe. And if it
works, you reestablish them one by one.
- last you may have to go to 'Start' / 'Run', there type 'msconfig', go
to the rightest top menu 'Startup' and 'desable' all the items of the
list. You may re-tick them if it works afterwards.
- as a check, on the Windows Firewall, you may go to the 'Advanced',
check that the 'Local Area Connection' is enabled, and if needed, go to
the previous 'Exceptions' label, then first see if FileMaker Pro is
allowed ('Add Program') on both PCs, or else 'Add Port', and type 'PC-B'
and a port, say '2000' (this one I am not 100% sure, but I did it once
and it worked). You may do that on both machines.
- are both of the FMPs set to accept TCP/IP connections ? I guess so, if
not you'd be warned.
- as always, check the cables and see if they are well plugged in, and
possibly change them for checking.
Well, that's all I can think of at this moment.
- no, there is the router also that has to be checked.
May I come back though to one of your expressions ? You said 'Pc-A has
been allowed multi-user'. It's not the PC itself that has to be set
multiuser but each of the files that compose your database. But it is
probably what you meant.
Go luck and tell us the results.
