Hi all,

anybody knows how subtracting G channel from R and from B could
increase lossless compression?

Because it is a simple decorrelation transformation. I would recommend a
more efficient, though, look for the JPEG2000 ICT "multi-component
transformation".

Do you think that subtracting for example the R channel or the B channel
instead of G would be different?

Probably. The normal spectral density of our world has "typically" a
maximum in the green/yellow area (this is also why plants are green - most
efficient part of the spectrum), and thus a good degree of energy ends up
in the green channel.

misc mystery:
if on a planet near a red dwarf, would it likely be that any creatures would
naturally see in IR (or maybe lower), rather than the visible spectrum?...
(just what kind of perception would they have?...).

or how about a blue giant, or otherwise?...

misc thought really...

oh well, you think it is weird/mysterious that, for me at least, greens and
greys almost look like the same color (and I sometimes/often mistake
them)?...

well, since green is the dominant part of the spectrum anyways, probably
shouldn't be too far off...

(so then the mystery more that I am not really seeing the greens or the
greys?...). more often grey looks green than green looks grey though.

hmm...

So long,
