Matlab implementation of EBCOT

Hello everybody,

there are several sources (like Matlab File Exchange Server) where you
can download SPIHT implementations in Matlab. But for EBCOT I only
found C or Java implementations.

Is Matlab to weak to compute the EBCOT algorithm? Or what is the
reason why there exists no Matlab implementations?

Does someone has any experiences?
