me not totally sure why one can't run 32 bit drivers in a 32 bit address
space, eg:
kernel and 64 bit drivers, 64 bit space
32 bit drivers and a kernel stub, 32 bit space
32/64 apps bit, their own process spaces...
It can be done.
where the kernel stub would emulate what of the kernel is needed by the
drivers, and proxy data to/from the main kernel.
not really sure why in the architecture this can't be done, but if so why
isn't it done?...
Is is done, microsoft is just using the number of bits as an excuse for
changing their O/S internals.
maybe it would be a hassle, but presumably less so than expecting everyone
to port their drivers?...
Win 9x could use dos drivers....
Win 3.1 could run apps with 32-bit code (as could dos...)
Bye.
