For lossless comrpession it _is_ special (even just in some special cases).
If you think about it, white noise in lsb would restrict lossless
compression to 8:1. So I'm little sceptic about 20:1.

Probably not. Wavelet based lossless compressions show modest performance
when compared to conventional linear prediction schemes. Just compare
JPEG-LS to JPEG2000 (in lossless mode). On the other hand wavelet-transform
gives other nice properties, which aren't found in linear prediction.
