Surely you meant to say "egg-laying wool-milk-sow" there? (Perhaps you
were thinking "pig" when you wrote "pick"?)

The best English translation of the phrase I can come up with is
"all-in-one". ("One-size-fits-all" isn't bad, but "all-in-one" is a
better fit grammatically, since you can use "all-in-one" as a noun.)
"All-in-one" has some of the same connotations as "Swiss army knife",
except that the latter nearly always refers an object that is actually
quite handy. "All-in-one" sometimes implies that the object in
question is less useful than it sounds (maybe because it's made of
cheap material, or because nobody really needs most of its features).
An important facet of the German phrase that these English versions
lack is that the beast in question obviously can never exist. In that
sense it is very reminescent of the chimera. (Of course, a chimera is
a hideous monster and not a useful farm animal, so it would be very
inappopriate as a translation of "Eierlegende Wollmilchsau".)
