It is good to interact with someone that is genuinely interested in
helping out other folks in a cordial fashion, as you have proved over
and over..
I am usually curious and did look around :), but couldn't see what you
saw.
Here is my screen after logging in without a support contract:

In that screenshot you can see all the master-locks and the imposing
mesages about the requirement for "active service contact required for
full access" at both the top and bottom of the page.
And I have to admit that I am just at a loss to find the "latest
topics list in the right side bar" or the "sidebar sub-forum on the
left" that you mention in your post.
I can see something similar to what you mention at https://forum.solidworks..com/
but cannot access anything with a login that is not tied to a serial
number.

Out of curiosity...
when you created a new account not tied to a serial number, did you do
it on a computer that you used for an account that WAS tied to a
serial number? My working theory is that the difference in our
results is due to cookies.
