Re: UG NX On A Mac

Few thoughts on this.

First for any dyed-in-wool Mac user they would just as soon use UGNX (with
its completely non-standard interface) as sniff old socks. Bottom line -
won't happen. Mac users have pretty high standards when it comes to
interface design (call them snobs if you like, but its just reality). They
have been used to well designed interfaces since 1984 and they are not about
to go backwards for a product like NX.

Secondly the likelyhood of UG actually selling a license of NX on a Mac is,
well marginal at best considering that Macs have never made serious in roads
in the mainstream engineering design world, not that I can't appreciate the
stability of the platform. For UG to port NX to the Mac platform was pobably
very little effort considering they already run on just about every UNIX
platform out there. However I think it speaks volumes to the lack of
marketing saavy at UG to even bother spending the time fixing real issues
with the software.

Lastly while UG NX may have long standing qualifications in some markets,
its interface is unquestionably dated and non-intuitive. I defy anyone to
sit down with it fresh and with a good set of tutorials really make headway
in a week. Considering the modern interfaces of today allow new users to
climb the fundamentals curve in under a week in many cases, UG has some
serious catch up to do.

As a disclaimer - I have used just about every CAD system either heavily or
casually there is since 1980. And I currently run both PC's, Mac's and
mainframe machines (yes even big iron still).
