Well for what it's worth... I did some new builds with SIMH for running 4BSD under windows!

All the downloads are here:
https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=204974&package_id=245145
Now for the fun... I've got the following:
4.2 BSD
4.3 BSD
4.3 BSD + NFS UWisconsin
4.3 BSD RENO
Now all of them have working network! That's right, you can now
telnet into 4.2 BSD! All of the exe's incorporate SLiRP from Qemu so
that they have 'user mode NAT'.. You could build your own
vax780.exe's to do pcap or the HECnet thing if you so wish...
I've also setup some SIMH tape images for all the VAX BSD stuff I can
find at the moment... Those can be found here:
https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=204974&package_id=309407
I've also got some tars of gzip/gcc ... I've been trying to find an
IRC client that will run on 4.2 BSD... no dice so far. I thought
about doing a quake server, but I'll need more memory.. And I've had
issues running 4.2 BSD on the emulated 11/780 with more then 8mb of
ram... I think that was a problem back then too!
So far I've been playing with locore.s but I figure there is more to
modify...
Anyways I have 9 downloads of the new 4 BSD on windows stuff, so I
know somebody out there uses this stuff....
I wonder how hard it'd be to run PINE out to gmail? Or even build an
infastructure for ancient UNIX on the internet?
Anyways I guess we'll find out in a year or 3.
PS if anyone has any solution for the locore.s / 8mb of ram on 4.2BSD
throw me a line!
