All this did get me to thinknig about what would happen if we really
could wave a magic wand and have FTL signaling overnight. Some people
have said "the paradox is that you could receive signals before you
sent them." But that's not true, if you set up a transponder the
signal would still be received after the signal is sent. In fact, I
can't come up with anything that would make the Universe fall apart if
you could signal FTL. It would enable alternate paths for our future,
just as the invention of radio has profoundly influenced our present
times.
Right, plus much more. Like, much faster computers:) Like, ability to distribute clusters all over the world... internet today is like physicists worst nightmare:) Speed of light changes whenever, without any rules. So faster signals, good news for distributed computing... including AI;)
But no matter how fast the method is, you can always try to
communicate so far that the method is slow. Hard to imagine trying to
signal a galaxy near the causal horizon and the return message being
anything but in the far future.
Imagine indians trying to smoke signal europe...:)) Eventually they burn enough forests for europeans to see the smoke, but hey, its bad weather today and they think it's just another cloud...:)
