What would you count as evidence of self-recognition?
That's not IMO as simple a question as it sounds. Molecular biologists use the notion when explaining for example the immune system's ability to differentiate the host's own proteins etc from foreign ones. Does that mean we recognise ourselves at the molecular level? I don't think that's what you have in mind.
