A good article demonstrating how it serves as a pivot point in AI.

It's a misguided problem - really a pseudo-problem. It is a problem
that leads AI and philosophy astray.

There is no question that the problem is cast in a stupid way - that is what
happens when you start from stupid assumptions. But the problem of "how to
explain language" is not a pseudo-problem.

I have never denied that there is a need to explain language.
My disagreement is with the view that it is a kind of algebra
of meanings.

Quoting from your cited link:

The Symbol Grounding Problem is related to the problem of
how words get their meanings, and of what meanings are.

However, symbol grounding is not a problem faced by most humans. When
was the last time you had to ground a symbol?

Again, though phrased in a stupid way, one could say that the question is
about the "acquisition of language."

Not really. The question was raised in the context of AI
programming, and attempts to have AI systems use natural language.
