Cyc is lacking just about everything needed. In particular, it
lacks common sense.
After reading about some of the common sense projects
it occurred to me that humans do not have to have all
that common sense typed into their brains. They seem
to 'work it all out' from experience. They don't need
to be told "lemons are sour".
Quite right.
If robots are going to interact with the real world
via some robotic body doesn't it make common sense they
should build up their data base from experience the way
we do?
The tricky part there is in your reference to "the way we do".
The question of how we do it is unsettled.
A much less tedious process I would think then
typing it all in and leaving open that we may have left
It's not clear that it is less tedious. Remembering back to my childhood,
I seem to recall that growing up was tedious.
The real problem, however, is that typing it all in doesn't actually
provide the knowledge.
