Re: idle thoughts on AI

This guy is posting this same drivel for years! He is
a living proof that sometimes brains do not adapt and learn,
they just stay the same.

The soul/mind lies at the interface between Science and Religion. The
very usage of mind as a substitute for soul points to this. Various
persons in nineteenth century England took to this usage because they
wanted to appear scientific, but they also wanted to discuss
consciousness. What to do? Use the word mind for soul, that's what!

The fundamental equation of Science may be written as: There is no God
in the Machine. The Scientist sees a nervous system composed of
neurons; the neuron is his unit. The religionist sees a man facing the
universe; consciousness is his unit.

In our time, it has become the fashion for all men, including
Religionists, to claim Science. This is the source of endless
bickering. Since we have placed consciousness in the brain. Scientists
naturally feel they must explain consciousness. Such nonsense.

When the Scientist looks for the NCC, the neural correlate of
consciousness, he poaches on Religion. One simple resolution is to
simply note that consciousness is not part of Science. Consciousness
implies a God in the Machine, and that is out-of-bounds by definition.

Philosophers in an attempt to establish their usefulness, like to
muddle the distinction between Science and Religion. Look at Searle:
He says, "You cannot create consciousness by programming a computer!"
The Scientist falls into his trap, and answers, "We can so!" The
imbroglio escalates; the philosopher wins.

The Scientist should just forgo the Theory of Everything, and say that
consciousness is not for Science, that there are limits.

The philosophy of artificial intelligence continues to enflower this
hopeless argument: Can we program consciousness, or can we not? Is the
Chinese Room Science, or is it Religion?

Let us have a show of hands! Are we trying to program consciousness,
or are we trying to program intelligence?

Fiddle-Dee-Dee.
