Re: intellignece and conciousness, the one implies the other?

Daniel Dennet has written extensively on this.

I find Jeff Hawkins (On Intelligence) analysis interesting.
He talks about human consciousness having self-awareness
and empathy of other intelligences. The first allows one to
stand outside of themselves, analyze themeselves, review
their past selves and plan their future selves.
The second facilitates language and learning. By realizing
that other humans are pretty expereince the same mental
states as oneselve, one can telegraph these states in
a very terse manner whcih we call language. We can learn
from each other by imitiating.

Consciousness probably isnt a necessary condition of intelligence,
but a a useful one for human-type intelligence.
