It is for a fuzzy system. I have been asked to do it in VB but if I can
come up with valid reasons as to why VB shouldn't be used, i could
consider using something else.

I bet if you googled for "fuzzy system in visual basic," you would find
hundreds of thousands of references. I cannot recommend you any of them,
because in my view VB would be a quite strange choice for designing a fuzzy
system. But other people may have no such prejudgment.
