You are partially right... I had no sense of how to proceed and that
was because I don't have any formal training in the subject area of AI.

I was like a person who is trying to propose the ultimate theory
without any formal training in Physics.

But, see, that helps in a certain way. Having knowledge can block you
mind to think in only certain directions. But if you don't know
anything about a subject then every path is a possible path and who
knows, you might discover a previously unexplored path/theory.
