Access z/OS 3270 TSO from "smartphone"?

OK, it's probably a stupid thought. But we are losing our laptop with the "air card". So we won't have a way to access our z system when not at home or where there is wifi (assuming I take my own laptop around with me). So, with all these new "smartphones" such as the Droid, I was wondering if that device could be used to VPN into our LAN and then do 3270 emulation? I know absolutely nothing about these devices. Can they "telnet" into UNIX systems?
