Our consultant says that the best solution for FTP (since Ported Tools
does not support native MVS datasets) is to use SSL under the standard
FTP program. I was told by a bank that that was not a solution that
they would accept because the userids and passwords are transmitted in
the clear. The consultant disagrees with that statement "as long as
certificates are used".
Please search the archives, or at least previous posts, 'cuz there was a thread on this exact topic only days ago.
In short, FTP with TLS does NOT transmit userids and passwords in the clear. They are exchanged between client and server after the TLS (SSL) handshake.
BTW, your message did not go to the list server, only to the newsgroup server, so you shouldn't expect much activity to this post.
