About 1 in 5 IBM employees now in India
AP via Yahoo! News Fri, 14 Dec 2007 1:43 PM PST
IBM Corp.'s expansion in developing countries shows no sign of
relenting. The technology company revealed Friday that it now has
73,000 employees in India, almost a 40 percent leap from last year.

I didn't read the referenced article in depth but, I suspect
that it's more appropriate to say something like:

"IBM/India represents about 1 in 5 employees".

To me(IMO), your statement suggested that the 1 in 5
(aka 20%) employees had been moved from the US
to reside in India("now in India"). I doubt that.

Although IBM may say "now in India", I think they really
just mean "hired in India".

Of course, in lesser numbers, IBM has had employees in
other countries for decades.

Like California. <bg>

The post and article seem clear to me. You should read the article.

One out of every five (20%) of IBM's employees are in (not FROM, but
actually IN) India. The article, as well as the post, stats that IBM now
has 73,000 employees in India. If you do the math this means that IBM
would have around 365,000 employees.

The post does not imply that 20% of IBM's employees have been moved from
the US, all it states is that 20% of IBM's employees are now IN India. The
new employees in India could be replacing IBM employees from anywhere in
the world.

Yea, you're right. It was merely an personal observation.

As with most PO's they're subjective.

Thanks.
