John,
That makes no sense to me... I thought that a 31-bit program could
address x'00000000' -> 'x'0FFFFFFF' below the line, and the same above
the line. I.O.W. it could go up to x'8FFFFFFF' which means x'0FFFFFFF'
above ? This means that the hole is from x'00000000 90000000' -> ?
Regards
Herbie

The "bar" is the "hole" in z/OS between 2G and 4G for all addressdesire for a CSA
spaces, as you said. The origin of this thread was the
in the "above the bar" area, similar to the CSA "below the line" andarea (G for
the CSA "above the line". I termed the phrase GCSA for this

64 bit Grande instructions ).
Huh? I was told that "The Bar" was the top of the 31-bit
addressable space. What did I miss?
The "bar" is actually 2GiB wide, beginning at 64-bit address
x'00000000_80000000' and ending at 64-bit address x'00000000_FFFFFFFF'.
In the context of this thread, the "bar" and the "hole" are one and the
same.
