in a position where vi was one of the few editors avialable, I took the
time to try and learn some of its more arcane features, and have come to
like it. It is very powerful, allowing you to do a large number of
tasks with a minimum amount of keystrokes. It clearly isn't for
everyone, but if you take the time to learn it (much like any other tool
in the world) it may not appear to be quite as large of a crock as you
first thought.
Just my $.02 (and many people would say I am inflating the value to a
gross extent)
