P.P.S. Any news writer who spells it "Cobol" shows how knowledgeable they
are about the language.

Is it really so important ? I've seen Cics, Db2, spelled by the administrators. Bad or good ones, but for sure they know the product names. Just they don't care or allow MS Word to "correct" the words.

BTW: Isn't COBOL the most primitive language in use ? OK, I assume Basic (BASIC ?) is not in use. Isn't COBOL unpopular on other platforms ?
