Ours is going away too.... has been for about 7 years and 2 upgrade ago.kinda like ours then ... we're on year 16 of our 5-year plan to get off of our mainframe ... we've moved two of our major applications (HR and Student Information Systems) off to our Sun server farm (about 100 servers so far) ... one more application to go (financials) ... last I heard we were targetting 2008 for cutover ... wonder how many more servers we'll be bringing in?
The current plan is that will REALLY be gone in 3 years.
when we started this plan we were on a 3081. upgraded to an ES/9000 and then a 9672. just completed an upgrade to a z890 last year.
the only reason we're allowed to upgrade is that we have an agreement with our customers that we keep them on supported hardware and software. which means we're about due to upgrade our CICS soon (we're still on CICS TS 1.3).
hmmm ... in 2008, I'll have 27 years ... wonder if I can retire?
