Yes, Shmuel, I did read your reply. Even though I quoted my original
post you either *still* didn't read it or you don't understand what I
wrote.

Yes, I am free to use any path prefix that I choose, but I also want
to use Automount to manage the mount of the HFS containing Java (and
others) when I apply service. I use a naming convention that uses
the same name in the mount point and the dsname. My DDDEF PATH
looks like /service/java/TARGET/J1.4 and Automount has no problem
mounting OMVS.TARGET.JAVA14 at /service/java/TARGET.

The problem with Automount comes when AJVSCRPT is run and it expects
the J1.4 directory that is in the root of the Java HFS to be located
at -PathPrefix-/usr/lpp/java/. If you know a way that I can define
Automount so that I can reference, for example,
/service/java/TARGET/usr/lpp/java/J1.4 and Automount will mount
OMVS.TARGET.JAVA14 at /service/java/TARGET/usr/lpp/java, I would be
very interested in learning how to do it.

Actually, I don't have a problem, because I have a solution, also
proposed in my original post. I was looking for two things when
I first posted.

1. Opinions about my proposed solution.
2. Other possible solutions.

My solution, as originally posted, is to create a /usr/lpp/
directory structure in the root of the Java HFS and a symlink at
/usr/lpp/java/ with a value of "../.." (without the quotes).
This way, when Automount mounts OMVS.TARGET.JAVA14 at
/service/java/TARGET/ AJVASCRPT is able to find
/service/java/TARGET/usr/lpp/java/J1.4.
