So too did I. That TV is now my second set. 

I only have one.  27".  It's 6 years old.



What happens to those people when everything changes over and they're stuck with what they have because of the outrageous prices of hdtv sets.

Let's not get into name calling. There's no reason for it.

They are NOT 
outrageous!  The technology is at least three times more costly to
produce, AND that makes them more expensive to buy.  It's called
cost-of-manufacture.  How can you be so clueless as to think they are
gouging you like the oil companies, cable companies, and power
utilities do?  The price is a bit high, but quite reasonable.  So buy
last year's model... Sheesh!


Did I say gouging? I don't recall using those words. I said outrageous. "Exorbitant.. steep.. usurious" (Look that one up in your Funk and Wagnall's)

I'm not talking 60". What's the average price? $1000? That's a hell of a lot of money for some people. Especially if you're on a tight budget. 


  That is the same thing my dads said when I wanted my own 25"console
set in 1970.  I didn't get one.  The family could only afford the one
we already have.  Myself, however, I now have under my belt at least 5
old PCs, some of which have several thousand dollars invested in them.
It turns out that my hobby has the worst depreciation rate known to
man.  I also have plenty of good, high quality video equipment pieces.
You don't see me pissing and moaning though.

Bragging doesn't become you. I could give a rat's ass if you have 5 or 50 PCs. Whoop de dooooo! I have a PC that's 5 years old. I get by with it. I have a DVD that was given to me as a gift so you know it's not a top shelf brand. I like it. It does what it's supposed to. I'm not a videophile like some people. I like to come home from work and watch a movie to relax. Period. And no, I don't sit around the house with a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other. I don't drink or smoke.


  Jeez, the electronics maker do a good job of giving it to us at a
good price.  If you ever worked in a Mfg environment, you might learn
about COM reduction cycles and price point targets.

  Anyway, the point is that the electronics industry has the lowest
profit margins of nearly any other goods producer in the nation short
of the farmers!

  Get over it!  We are lucky they aren't trying to gouge us the way
Billy will be doing with the Xbox 360.  If we could all only organize
well enough to not buy a single unit upon their release.  Watch how
fast those prices would drop!

  It just so happens that you are getting what you pay for with HDTV
technologies.  It's really that simple.  Save up and buy, IF you are
that interested.  Otherwise, wait around or do the rental thing to
determine if it is worth it to you to put it IN your budget.

I don't do rentals. Of any kind. DVD, car, or even an apartment. I own. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.
