The Tropicana is doing a fantastic remodeling and rebuilding. They are
also
working hard to get people into the new rooms and suites.

I'm surprised to hear that. I stayed there ~2 years ago and was not
impressed at all. I figured they ( like the Frontier) were not spending a
dime on it - hoping to be bought out. Maybe they realized , in this
environment that wasn't going to happen quickly and if they wanted
players
they needed to spend a few bucks ?

The Trop does indeed have new owners who are investing in the
refurbishment.
You were there under the previous ownership whose sorry management allowed
the
property to deteriorate. Things are looking up now.

Regarding the New Frontier, owner Phil Ruffin timed his moves brilliantly,
selling the property at the peak of the Vegas boom to developers with
grandiose plans which promptly fell through when the economy went south.
They
are now left with an empty lot.

That I knew - PERFECT timing.

This I didn't know:

Meanwhile MGM/Mirage needed desperately to
raise cash to finish CityCenter. Ruffin pounced, buying Treasure Island
from
MGM for much less than he sold the Frontier for. So in effect he traded
up
from the dumpy Frontier to the bigger and much nicer TI, and was paid
several
hundred million dollars to do it.

I used to play craps at the Frontier and had lots of fun times there ...
until the last few years when you could barely tell that the felt on the one
crap table was supposed to be green - it was so faded. I resented it at the
time, but realized what he was doing. THAT was THE biggest / smartest deal I
could ever have imagined. and to get TI for less money - Wow !

If only the Stardust hadn't had such grandiose plans so early. A waste to
implode it and have such a big dirt lot.
