We plan on visiting the Las Vegas Springs Preserve this trip, and I
was wondering if any AVLVers have some first hand comments about the
park?
It's described as being the original springs which led to Las Vegas
being settled in the first place, updated with galleries, hiking
trails and other attractions.
Me, as a history buff, I want to observe the springs themselves and
read any interpretive information available.
This trip: the Springs, and The Old Mormon Fort.
I found the Preserve to be an incredible waste of $250 million. Why pay
$18 to tour a desert environment that's surrounded by actual desert?
Meanwhile the Neon Museum, with it's boneyard full of cool old signs
waiting to be restored, doesn't have to pot to piss in.
As an alternative, consider driving out to Red Rock Canyon. The scenic
loop drive is just $7/car and there are places to stop and clamber among
the rocks and enjoy the views. You can even see the Strip in the far
distance.

Before the scenic drive there's another area called Calico Basin which
does have actual springs that provide moisture for vegetation. There's
a boardwalk with interpretive signs.

Down in Henderson on Boulder Highway there's the Clark County Museum
with Vegas history exhibits and a "street" of period houses you can look
in on. It's a steal at just $1.50/person.
