Well, if we can suspend disbelief for the media, politicians, TV
evangelists, and just about anyone who says something that supports our
personal prejudices, it shouldn't be too difficult. In any case, we know
production of CO2 is rising and we the earth is being deforested, so I'd be
surprised if CO2 levels were dropping.
We do know that temperatures are falling, not rising.
I don't know that. Looks to me like temperatures have periods where they
rise, and periods where they fall, but the long-term trend is up. Thinning
arctic ice sheets don't reassure me either. Why do you think they're
falling?
And we know that there is nothing that we (the USA) can do to stop carbon
emissions from rising, because any lowering of our emissions will only
result in a rise from another country.
We don't know that either. I'll grant you that past experience doesn't
engender optimism, but I don't think that's a reason for not trying.
