So, what conclusions do I draw from my trip?
This was the first time I'd stayed downtown and indeed the first time
I'd spent more than a couple of hours down there. So what did I
think, and how does it compare to the Strip?
I *loved* downtown! Basically, everything you would want from a Vegas
vacation can be had downtown. The atmosphere, the gaming, the food,
the beer(!), the rooms, just about everything better downtown than on
the Strip. The rooms I found the most comfortable and which I had the
best night's sleep in were also the cheapest; the pavilion rooms at
the El Cortez. Next time I'm in Vegas, I won't bother staying on the
Strip at all.
Downtown was actually quite busy when I was in Vegas, and when I moved
down to the Excalibur it also was quite busy. Other Strip hotel
casinos, though, were fairly quiet. This would seem to suggest that
rather than forgo Vegas altogether, a lot of mid-range travelers are
just dialing down, which would be good news for downtown and Strip
hotels like the Excalibur, Tropicana and Imperial Palace.
I'd like at this point to thank the people of AVLV who gave me such
good advice before my trip, and who have given my trip reports a
friendly welcome. I'd especially like to thank Walt, who steered me
to some good bargains for room stays and good advice generally.
Thanks, everyone.
Edward
Excellent trip reports, next best thing if you can not be there, beer reviews were valuable, if ya did one more review, consolidate all the beer reviews, this would be handy. I agree downtown is not a bad deal, My last trip Instead of renting a car the whole time, I bought a bus pass (RTC) pre trip they mail it to you and you save depending on what you buy, I think you save two bucks a day for a 3 day pass, Also you can catch the bus right off freemont and avoid walking to the bus depot, also I bought match play coupons and drink coupons on EBAY for cheap pre trip, Any way I found your reports some of the best in a while.
