Not exactly. Only $24 Billion in debt - that's all.. No salaries cut
and no firemen and police laid off yet. Also, the state legislature's
who's new motto is, "We are all going to suffer," obviously didn't
apply to them as they haven't lost or given back a single cent of
their perks.
That has long been a pet peeve of mine. All people should have access to
the same benefits as politicians. Same pension, same health care, etc.
Politicians work FOR the people... why should they have perks that the
bosses don't?
It's because they think of themselves as government's representatives
to the public when it's supposed to be the other way around.
And why do politicians get to vote on their pay and benefits? Shouldn't the
voters have a say in what we pay these people? I never had a job where I
got to tell the boss how much he was going to pay me.
That's simple - because they can. If people in California got to vote
on politicians' salaries, instead of being the highest paid state
legislators in the country they'd be eligible for food stamps and
government cheese. Even the liberal voters have had enough with the
Democratic controlled legislature that has spent $1.90 for every $1
taken on worthless social welfare programs and the Republicans there
any better. The rest of the state's money goes to pay back campaign
contributors with lucrative, no bid contracts and sweetheart
legislation.
The commission that sets legislatures salaries which, strangely
enough, is appointed by the legislators, decided to reduce their
salary by 18%. This was the huge headline in both of our daily
papers. The story (continued on page 28 in 10 point type) went on to
say that it only applies to those who are newly elected or reelected
in the future. It was certainly nice of the print media to perpetuate
the scam and make it look like the the current bunch of clowns were
actually getting a reduction in pay when that's not true. Here's my
prediction. Right after the next election, that 18% cut will be
dropped and probably replaced by an 18% raise.
All men are created equal, no? Seems like some are more equal than others.
