Headed out to Vegas for Spring Break...and had a great time. I was a
winning trip for both me and the Mrs., which is rare. Let's see what
I can remember...the highlights...
Transportation:
Southwest out of New Orleans. Got an A pass, but a high number;
managed exit row, even 'King's seat' on one leg. Went out thru Dallas,
with stop in Amarillo. Non-stop on the way home. Didn't have too
seats together, which was ok. Unlike TominCT, I didn't sit in 1st
class and put the Mrs. in coach...although, on second thought, maybe I
did. All was fine as I had the SWA drink coupons for her. Flights on
time, baggage return quick. I still luv to fly SWA. (However, since
then, I flew SWA to St. Louis--thru Houston...on the way back we got
rerouted to San Antonio..and ended up in New Orleans 4 hours late (1am
instead of 9pm) Bad weather that night in Houston.)
Car Rental--Best rate was with Budget and I was not a member of their
club (I am now). Crappy little car, but it was good enough for the
two of us. About $160 total for Saturday-Friday. Hard sell on
insurance. "Do you realize you'll have to pay full rate ($54/day) if
it is in the shop?" What a cruddy law. Of course the rental agencies
want it local residents have little reason to oppose it...except on
principle...I won't go on...
ROOMS: First 2 nights at Suncoast. Loved it. Saturday $64, Sunday
FREE. $79ish total. Nice big room on 4th floor with a view of the
roof. Across the hall was the golf course view. Big deal. Bed was
comfortable and we'd stay there again without reservation. Swimming
pool was full of kids, and it seem too cold to go down there. The hot
tub was nice.
Third night we drove to St. George, Utah and stayed at Quality Inn.
Free WiFi. Seemed like most hotels there had it..and you could easily
sit in parking lot and check email. We did have to have a code at our
hotel. Room was nice and free (Choice Inn points). Hotels all had
deals...$24 a night if I remember correctly. Nice little town.
Wouldn't mind living there...clean, quiet, and close to Vegas. What a
beautiful drive thru NW Arizona. The Nevada stretch was nothing
special...more of the same desert...
Last three nights at Sam's Town. $20 thanks to Vegas.com double the
price difference deal (Thanks Walt). first night our room faced the
inside {Mystic River??) (2 beds) and we moved to a room with one king
that faced north...Not a bad place to stay...especially for what we
paid and having a car. Friendly, quick service.
FOOD: Saturday on arrival we stopped at Orleans for 241 buffet. Still
good, and really good for the price. Sunday we had the buffet at
Suncoast (Easter Buffet) and it was very good. Great rare Prime Rib.
Sill have another 241 from checkin, and POV. We'll have to go out
there in JOOONE. Stopped in Mesquite and ate at coffee shop (timing
caused us to miss buffets) at Eureka Casino. Not bad. I had NY Strip
and the Mrs. had a sandwich. Got free $5 play at each casino we
stopped at. One was closed, others were slow. Very slow.
Got back late Wednesday to check in Sam's so we ate there...Had $2 off
buffet, big deal. Not really that good. Had several free drink coupons
(ours and people at tables around us). The Mrs. had plenty of wine
that night...
Had the steak dinner special at Ellis Island...as always, cooked to
perfection and wonderful. Two for $20 after tip.
Wandered down to Silverton for Buffet. Very good, 241 makes it even
better. Still have one for JOONE in POV, since I used ACG coupon. We
also had lunch at MSS buffet. It was good too. I'm sure we used 241
there too, I think the one that Walt posted a link for. Printed up
copy for my bowling team mates for JOONE.
GAMBLING: Started the trip with 4 Aces w/kicker at Suncoast. Double
Double Bonus Moved up to quarters and now wonder why I bothered
playing nickels. We planned to see Society of Seven Sunday at
Suncoast, but when I went to get tickets (20 minutes before the show)
it was sold out. Good thing, the Mrs. hit 2 big 4OAKs at the bar
within minutes of each other when I got back to explain no show
tickets. she plays DDB too. It was nice to be ahead the entire trip.
Played on session of Blackjack, $5 and won almost every hand. It was
6-5, single deck, so after two times thru the deck the dealer left,
and I thought that was time for me to go too. Up $40, and wondered
why I didn't increase my bet. Oh well, I'm a low roller. Played at
Sam's, MSS, Fitzgeralds (there to get WiFi at Kristy Kreme), Ellis
Island, GVR, all uneventful. Managed to keep most of what we won at
Suncoast.
SHOWS: Passed on $62 ticket for Elton John at Tix4Tonight (mistake I
think) but the next day, Thursday, got Wayne Brady tickets for about
that. Donna called as we were picking them up at the V Box Office to
ask us to join her at East Side Cannery, uh...wish we did. Wayne
Brady's comedy stuff was good, he sang the second half of show, which
was ok...He's really talented, but liked the comedy stuff better.
Went out to GVR late Wednesday to see YBR, and we got there and it was
almost over. Thought they started late like they do on the weekends
at Boulder, but the must have started around 9. Got to see last two
sets, and members of the audience were almost as much fun to watch as
the band. Looking forward to seeing them again in JOONE. Anyone up
to go to GVR Wednesday night??
SHOPPING: No deals at Premium outlet mall, but the Mrs. did use some
of her winnings to get a nice Coach purse. I got a couple of chinos at
Primm Outlet (we drove down there to do some geocaching) at Tommy
Hilfiger for $10 a pair.
Weather was great, we found 158 geocaches and got to visit St. George
and Mesquite. Added two new hotels to my Vegas hotel list, but I
guess I'm still behind Thomas. As always, hated to leave and had a
great time.
