I'm sure he realizes that. I'm sure he also realizes someone who comes
for a $50 room is likely to clip coupons, and be happy going to Ellis
Island for the $7 steak special, and thus NOT patronize his shows/
gaming/eating unless they are absolutely the cheapest option. He
doesn't want to target that market, because he thinks he can charge
higher prices and attract people who think maybe $80 on a weekday,
$120 on a weekend is a reasonable price to pay for a hotel room (and
compared to a lot of cities, $120 IS a good price for a three star
hotel room). Neither does Steve Wynn. That doesn't make them evil, it
means they are looking for a different market.

Here's the funny thing, though- you know all the wailing we keep
hearing about "why doesn't Vegas go back to super-cheap rooms like
they had in the 1970's"?

A $19-20 room in 1980 would be, inflation-adjusted, a $50 room right
now. That $29 room you got this CES would be a $12 room in 1980. We've
gone back to the future, folks.
