The disarmed Saddam - took away his WMD.
Get back to me when you guys get your story straight. When we went in
the Conventional Wisdom was that he never had WMD.
Huh?? There is universal agreement Saddam had WMD prior to the first
Gulf War. After the war, the UN went in and destroyed them and his
ability to make more. When we went in 2003, he had nothing. Is that
really to hard to understand?
I can't help by being impressed with how skimming of money from
"Oil for Food" into the Swiss bank accounts of Saddam, Kofi Anon's kid
and bribes paid by Elf and the French were so effective in disarming SH.
Is the corruption in the UN? Sure. Somehow, conservative think that
means the UN is useless. That's nonsense. There was massive corruption
in the US rebuilding efforts in Iraq - that doesn't mean they were
useless.
The fact that there was corruption - and some French companies were
involved - doesn't mean that the UN - including the French - weren't
effective in disarming Saddam. And it doesn't mean the French weren't
right about Saddam's WMD in 2003 - and the Bush administration was
wrong.
As I said, the really disappointing thing is people's inability to
change even in the face of overwhelming evidence. We now know the
French were right. We now know the UN was effective in disarming
Saddam. Instead of learning something, instead of reexamining their
world view, conservatives are spouting the exact same unti-French/UN
arguments they made before the war.
Is is that hard to learn and change?
