temp housing and car rental

Mornin' all.
I'm looking for an alternative to staying in a hotel or an extended stay
place. I will be working at the VA Medical Center near the corner of Vegas
Blvd and MLK for about 2 weeks in June. Safety is top concern as I am a
quiet SWF traveling alone. Would love to find a house (with pool hopefully)
with a room to rent. I don't need luxury! I won't be there alot. I may
have a visitor join me for 1-2 days if that matters.
Also, is there a local car rental place like Rent a Wreck or an alternative
to regular car rental companies?
