The prices I've seen are in the range of TJ's and far less

Here in the the Phoenix area, I find them a little pricier that the
"mega-groceries", like you say, kinda in the Trader Joes league.

I posted here before about my love for the Motherlode cake sold at Claim
Jumper's.  Well, Fresh & Easy has a prepared dessert section that has
some really incredible foods like <sp> tres leches or dulce de leche in
individual servings, tira misu and several other offerings.

Tried the tres leches, wasn't impressed. But then we're kinda spoiled
by the mexican bakery about 5 miles up the road.

The size of the stores is just right, IMHO.  The layout still "sucks" as
my kids say, in that you have to go clear to the back of the store to
get milk and other most frequently needed items.

They do that for a reason you know, so they can march you past the
"impulse buy" items on the end-cap displays.

That said, we do like their produce. We can practically always get
nicely ripe avocados there at less than the grocery store sale prices.
Tried some fresh green beans a few weeks ago, turned out pretty good
steamed with some bacon, vinegar, and almonds.
