Gabba TR Part II (part one)

Trip Report Part II - Boulder Highway or "Ohmygosh my wife is a
crapaholic.

Quick summary of yesterday - My wife and I (both 30-ish -- I am more ish
than she is) came back to Vegas after 6 years away to stay and play. We
stayed at the Strat only because of the cheaper rates. We were on room 15
overlooking the Holiday Vacation Hostel or something. It may have been
called Crack-Whore Inn, but don't quote me on that. Saturday night after a
steak dinner and some gambling - we turned in early only to wake up about
4:00 am. I grabbed a shower and head down to the casino in the Strat.

The so-called "Fun" book from the Strat had a match play 10 gets you 20 on
craps, so I decided to wean myself off of the video poker teat, and do some
manly table game action. I always wanted to play the tables, but I get so
nervous that I crumble under the pressure. I had been practicing with some
free casino software and had been rather successful at 3-card poker, craps,
BJ, and the other table games, so I thought it was time to "cowboy-up" and
take it to the tables this trip. I laid the 10-20 match play down on the
ass line and won within 2 rolls. WOW! That was so much easier than waiting
for a flush on VP. I scooped up my extra $20 bucks and ran being the cheap-o
that I am .Thank-you Stratosphere for paying for my breakfast! I then
quickly reverted back to the machines and played roulette - video roulette.
After a few minutes my grand breakfast money had dwindled down to a
grand-slam breakfast at Denny's. I better quit before all I am left with is
a bagel and some left over coffee. I went back upstairs to collect the wife.

She was ready to go, and we discussed our plans for the day. It was decided
that we would go to Boulder station and then out to "WHEEL OF FORTUNE" - err
oh... sorry about that. That sound just randomly plays out in my head for
some reason. As I was saying... we headed out the door. I told my wife all
about my awesome craps session, and informed her that she too, could be a
craps expert like myself. All it takes is some confidence, and a second 10
for 20 match play, which was found in our second so-called "fun" book. She
laid down her bet and coupon, and BAM rolled seven. WOW! $20 bucks from the
Strat and we did it in just a few seconds. She thought this was incredible
as she had never really played the tables before, and never ever played
craps. She wanted to stay and play that $20, but hunger prevailed and we
left for Boulder station.

Yes, the PoV coupon for the BS buffet was used. (BS buffet - that about sums
it up in my opinion). We signed up for the players club to save another $2
bucks off and got some breakfast. It was the Champagne brunch - had I known
that we would have eaten somewhere else. Still it only cost us $9 for the
both of us, and we ate enough number 10 can food to satisfy our hunger
pains. We were both equally unimpressed with the buffet. (We ate there 6
years ago for lunch and both like it very well, but breakfast was rather
gross).

I bought a dollar chip for my collection of dollar chips fro various
casinos. So far I had a whopping ONE chip in my collection, but I was
determined to add more. We drove off and decided to check out Arizona
Charlie's. We had planned on staying there, and almost booked the room. It
was $50 for Saturday night and $25 for Sunday and Monday. The price was
unbeatable, but I just wasn't sure it was going to be a nice place. I
thought it might be kind of old-school (meaning beat-up) like Ellis Island,
so I hesitated in booking the rooms. Well, when I went to book the room the
rice had jumped from $50 to $87, and I just couldn't bring myself into
booking it then. Anyway I digress. We arrived at AC and I was shocked to see
such a nice looking place to stay. We could have parked our car right in
front of our room and then walked just a few yards to the casino - as
opposed to parking in a parking garage and walking roughly 12 acres to get
to the casino, then walking another 50 yards past slots, tourists, and
time-share people. RATS!

The casino was clean and inviting as well. We signed up for the players
club. Now here is a great deal in my opinion. They give you back up to $100
on your player's card. I lost $30 on video blackjack, so I thought I had
better stop and get that money back. Of course you can't cash that money on
your player's card in, but you can gamble it in a machine. I did. I played
more BJ and every time I won I hit print ticket. Now here's the crazy thing.
The ticket not only printed what I had won, but also what I had bet. So
technically I was getting my money back. I lost 30 but cashed out $50 in
tickets. Now I wish I would have waited to redeem my cash back. I would have
gone closer to the hundred mark. My wife lost $25 and redeemed her cash back
and we did the same thing. We used a match play on the blackjack and won. My
wife was hoping it would be for craps. Lots of match plays would be used by
the way and in case you're wondering my wife was 90% payout when she used
them. My only win with them was on the Craps at Strat the very first time.
Before we left I grabbed a dollar chip. # Chips now = 2

Next on our stop: Sam's Town. We had stayed here on our third trip Vegas
(this was our 5th) and to be honest we were not smitten. I got my dollar
chip, and we looked around a bit. The main reason to come here was to find
my wife's favorite slot. It was the one where disembodied, gloved hands
dealt you video poker. Every once in while you would be offered to play for
the bonus hand of 75-150 coins. She played that a lot when we stayed here,
and couldn't wait to play again. All of the casinos we had been to so far
did not have these machines (whatever they were called). Sam's Town did not
have them either. In fact nobody had them. They must have been done away
with after the TITO take over? Well, I got my dollar chip and we left.

WOW - This is getting long (and boring I am sure). I will continue Part II's
Part II - DOWNTOWN - "Binions or Bust" later on. (The wife gets her craps
on)
