Re: Venetian Info?

Greetings All - I'm a long time lurker here, a SoCal local, and
frequent visitor to Vegas.

Up until last year I have been a tried and true fan of Downtown in
general and the Golden Nugget specifically. However recent changes
over the past year have left me with a less than wonderful feeling
about the Nugget and have given me a desire to branch out and try new
places.

So, when an offer from the Venetian graced my mailbox a month ago I
decided to give the place a try. This is a pretty nice deal - 3 free
nights, $50 in Slot or Match play, 2 for 1 at the Canyon club. I
stayed there once before about 5 years ago, crashing with some friends
in a Piazza Suite - so it's been a while. My wife and I are going Sun/
Mon/Tues this upcoming weekend.

What I'm looking for if there's anything special I need to know - any
tips, suggestions, etc for what I should ask for in terms of a room (a
better tower, perhaps?) , any must see/do things, stuff to avoid .
Things like that. I'm a $1 VP player (as well and BJ, Craps, and
poker). I've talk to folks extensively about the poker room there so
I'm pretty comfortable with the situation, however I'm not sure how to
Video Poker selection is.

I plan on dinner at Delmonico's on Sunday - are reservations needed?
Should I call the day before?

Also - my wife dropped the hint that she's love to go see "O". A look
at Bellagio's site shows no tix available for Sunday evening. Any
thoughts on how to get tickets for the show on such short notice?

I realize I'm dropping in here out of the blue and asking this stuff,
so I do very much appreciate any advice anyone can give.

TIA

Donna....take it away! You are quite familiar w/the Venetian, help
Jon out.

My experience there is somewhat limited, having only been in the
casino, Grand Lux Cafe, & the Canal Shoppes. I liked gambling there,
although the table minimum could be lower, $10 craps isn't too out of
line for a place like this. The food at the Grand Lux Cafe is very
good. The Canal Shoppes area was nice to walk around. Only store I
went in was a smoke shop & I turned around & walked out when the clerk
told a customer a pack of cigs was $8. After hearing that, I doubted
they had any Black & Mild pipe tobacco cigars for 79 cents each.

If you still like downtown, you should give the El Cortez or Main
Street Station a try. The rooms there, while probably not on par with
the Venetian, are still quite nice & can be had at a good rate. If
you like craps, the ElCo has 10X odds & MSS has 20x odds. Room comps
are pretty easy with a players card at those places.

Whatever you decide, enjoy your trip!
