Kicked around and ignored, Walt?
Well, if posting and responding to as SHK puts it, "silly words on a screen"
(wiggle your fingers when you say that) is being "kicked around" than kicked
around it is.
Ignored? Moi? Must I really comment on that?
In Professional Wrestling there are two characters, the "face" (the good
guy) and the "heel" (the villain). In order to be successful a wrestler has
to be one or the other and cannot be both, The majority of successful
wrestlers in the business were heels rather than faces. It got them noticed
and quite frankly made them more money.
The AVLV is similar to Professional Wrestling. While it is a serious
business, and despite its image the purpose of Wrestling is Entertainment.
That is all this NG really is. If you want to argue that it is (or should
be) a source of serious information, you can do that. But I think in
reality you better be prepared to explain the overwhelming majority of sick,
useless and destructive posts that Chuck (and then others) have
intentionally or in retaliation have posted.
Berman tried to take AVLV seriously. FJ and I tried in the beginning as
well. Strevel, Spencerdog and others long before I appeared as either mikem
or Big Mikey did also..Some of you tried. Many of the better posters and
more serious contributors and posters long gone. Each has there only
individual reason but all would agree that one of their reasons was because
of ONE person: Chuck Kohlbenberg.
Ask Patty, Ted, billhere, hounddog, etc.
The list is endless.
You want to blame me? OK. But it simply is not true. I learned (and I
admit it took time) that being the 'heel' may not make you many 'friends'
here, but like in wrestling you get more noticed. Do you 'notice' that good
or bad, the majority of posts here are after I post first? I do not write
them, YOU do. I beat replies (and when I post I never use a single
sockpuppet or alias) over Chuck almost 2x1.
So, if I am an attention freak, who am I getting the attention from?
Unlike Chuck I am not talking to sockpuppets. I am talking to YOU.
The "heel" wrestles the "face" night after night, week after week and on and
on it goes. The public hates the heel, but they keep coming back because
they cannot live without the heel. Otherwise wrestling is very boring---and
so is this newsgroup. Some of each catch on, some of you don't and some of
us not only catch on, WE LOVE IT!
While we could be a lot less vicious, and except for 'Goldhaber vs
Kohlenberg', who is really hurting who? "Woman" (who used to work in
Disney legal affairs and litigations) explained this to me a long while ago.
That is why she puts up with me doing this nonsense. She wrote a long
letter to the Goldhabers almost two years ago which was ignored. And why
would anyone take what people say about others or even care how anyone feels
about others here, is beyond me. While I like some of you (like Don and a
few others) if I want to be more than AVLV buddies, then it we both make the
effort to do so. And like many of you, the AVLV Connection becomes less and
less the reason for the friendship. But make no mistake, friendships and
testimonials here are as substantial here on AVLV as Bush or Clinton
testimonials. . .
As I have said many times before, this is the TOY Department. I do not
depend on this or any other NG for friendship, acceptance, reality or
fantasy, domination or sadism, or a cure for loneliness, insecurity,
catharsis, confession, or lack of sexual gratification. Perhaps Chuck does.
Intelligent Comments and I promise I will NOT respond to anything Chuck
writes.

Walt, remember, it is a newsgroup. It is only a newsgroup. No one
cares,
well,, no one balanced cares.
Interesting point made there by Don. It's probably not what the cool
kids would write, but I certainly DO care what a lot of people on this
group think about me. I've been reading and posting to this group for
more than 10 years and even though I can certainly say it's far from
being an obsession, I try to check in every day I'm at home and spend
a few minutes exchanging Vegas information and smiling about the
ludicrousness of it all.
The main reason I do care about what a lot of people think about me is
that I connected to many of them in many different ways. There are
people I write emails to every day, lots of people I've met when on
vacation and quite a few I'd consider to be friends and whom I'd let
gladly into my house as honored guests.
There's a reason why there was so much pre-Soiree excitement here and
why in the aftermath of it there were such a lot of posts about it.
Many people here want to connect on a more personal level than
shouting insults at each other and I certainly know that there have
been lots of desperate attempts at such personal connection from Don
and his friends that proclaim they "no longer care".
People I've never met have done incredibly nice things for me,
sending me stuff I couldn't get from Europe over here, always
suggesting it themselves, and never ever asking anything for return.
I certainly care about what these people think of me and try to act
accordingly.
Finally, I believe that there are quite a few people out there who
only read this group. While I'm sure that I probably won't meet any of
them, I, unlike other people, have a desire not to make an ass of
myself publicly.
What I have posted here over the years is easily retrieved over the
net, and people who know how to look for it, even in my real life, can
do so. This is another reason why my online persona isn't so much
different from my real one (I seriously doubts that it is possible to
be THAT much different online than what you really are, although some
people do make me wish I'm wrong about this). Even though I certainly
cannot claim to stay on topic all the time (a good opportunity for a
joke can't be wasted , after all), I do try to balance it with posting
over Vegas and actually, most of the sane regulars here do so,
literally jumping at a chance to help out people asking sensible
questions about the group's reason for being, vacationing in Las
Vegas.

I agree with all of that except the part about Strevel making an
interesting point. (In his mind, he will glom onto that statement and
ignore the rest, like Homer Simpson being distracted by a shiny penny.)
Once you interpret his gibberish, he's merely complaining that his
posts are held to the same standard of quality as everyone else's, a
standard he has never been able to meet.
Strevel's view of AVLV is exactly the opposite of yours. He doesn't
care about what he posts, whether its accurate or misleading, relevant
or useless. To him, all of his random thoughts are equally valid and
worth posting. And like Masarsky, he doesn't care how he's perceived
here as long as he gets some kind of response. He would rather be
kicked around than ignored. So we provide that service here as well.
