started at harrah's on tuesday. room's were cheap there (50 bucks) so
I stayed there tuesday n wed. went to hard rock and rolled for about
$250. went back to strip n got some good exercise walking n gawking.
slept well after that especially after skipping dinner.
played some at harrah's wed. after steady losses bet it all on the
come out roll (about $250) and made it twice. Ended up making about
$300. saw the mac king comedy magic show. excellent show and he's
very slick but dosent take himself too seriously. the third best show
I saw there. walked and gawked on strip some more and got very tired,
especially since I skipped food most meals. Finally went over to
Bill's gambling hall for the $3 beer n hot dog. very good deal
especially after playing some craps on one of their tables. several
shooters got hot. wound up winning about $400. what a blast. slept
well again after the light eating.
thursday, i go to the new hooter's casino, mostly out of curiosity.
Start off by making a hard 10 on my first roll. overconfidence gets
the best of me and I lose discipline and $400. I'm up about $600
after expenses at this point and my wife fly's in join me at
Caesar's. The room's were about $220/night there but wanted to stay
there when we saw Celine's show. Room's were nothing special but
Caesar's brought up a fruit basket which was nice and helped with the
frugal feeding. ate at bobby flay's "Mesa Grill". had wonderfull
shrimp tamale and wife had chicken quessadilas. best food we ate the
entire trip. ate only the appetizers cause we knew we would fill up
on the generous free breads. several different varieties like
sourdough, cornbreads, etc. Caesar's is humoungous so we opted to
walk the other side of the strip - back to Harrah's. tied one on
while we crawled along the strip. what a hoot. but got so relaxed i
lost the $600 i had won. not good to combine drinking and gambling
but still had a good time.
friday, went over to ellis island for the $5 off the menu sirlion
special. Fantastic 8 oz sirloin grilled to perfection. the best
sirloin i have ever had. add in the excellent house salad, gobs of
mashed potatoes and wonderful green beans. couldn't eat most of it
but washed down what i could with the home made root beer. didn't
get a chance to try the home brews from their brewery or the root beer
floats but this was still the best deal, $ for $, during the entire
week trip. didn't get to throw at their tiny craps table as it dosen't
come alive till 6 pm. never got a chance to throw there but will
catch it next strip. their max bet there is $50 so it may be good to
precision shooters. Went to Oshea's between bill's gambling hall and
harrah's next. The dwarf shill in front was blowing the whistle and
throwing down some shots for people just inside the bar along the
strip. what a set up. tourists partying like crazy while the craps
table, located nearly in the street, along the strip, was getting very
hot. ended up winning about $300 from a young lady shooting for the
first time, next to left of the stick man. she got hot with a strange
backhanded throw technique I had never seen. definitely not precision
but she had a ton of beginner's luck. after she sevened I left and
took a nap. came back later to find her throwing again. I was told
she had been throwing for about 45-60 minutes. Could see that my
fellow players who had stayed, had filled up their racks with chips.
crap, I missed it. then to top it all, my wife and I got to see
celine dion's show on friday the 13th. she's a dynamo even after 600
shows there. she said she only had 100 left and sound slightly
releived. Her sweetness and french accent kill me. coulda done the
show by herself but was generous enough to have about 100 helpers on
stage. very classy and talented. best show i ever saw in vegas.
saturday checked out the pool and get a nice tan. never european
tanned before but i prefer it now. moved over to the tropicana.
upgraded to some nice 17floor rooms in the paradise (front) tower.
excellent view of the strip especially mgm grand..located at the front
for convenience. fantastic pool with the swim up blackjack bar. not
a blackjack player so I didn't try. didn't get a chance to play
gamble there as we were booked for Dirk Arthurs magic show at about 4
pm. wonderful show and he's a great magician especially since he
explains how the tigers and other animals are treated. very humane.
did some great tricks and then went out front to sign autographs of
his poster. nice treat. then caught the 10 oclock follies bergere
show. finally got to see this show after going to vegas about 10
times before. was worth the wait. excellent dance routines, a
chronology of dance, great host (dan o'brien?), super drinks and sat
with a nice couple from down under. he was retired but working in the
broadcasting biz part time and had come up early for the NAB
convention. she was sweet retired nurse. show ended with the famous
french cancan dance. outstanding.. second best show i saw in vegas.
sunday, crawled along the south strip. excaliber, nyny, mgm grand,
harley davidson, mexican restraunt. walked all the way up to what was
formerly the alladin. covered with construction but made it into the
mall of the new planet holleywood casino. stuff was cheap in there as
it looked horrible in this makeover phase. went on to paris, venetian
and spied the fountains spouting at bellagio. incredible fountain
show to a frank sinatra song. got good and relaxed as the wife
shopped. made it to bally's where we discovered rapid roulette. what
a game. like roulette only lots faster and no fighting for position
on the table or number. she played for several hours on $50. I won
$50 and did some walking around the casino. the bets are anywhere
from 50cents to $2.50 with a five dollar minimum. great game. will
play again.
monday, checked out of tropicana. never got to play there although
its always been lucky for me and was where i learned to play craps.
we went downtown and walked freemont. excellent $1 shrimp cocktails
at the freemont but they were all over as well. good beer n hot dog
specials there. walked over to the el cortez. nice new hotel and i
checked prices and rooms were cheap. el cortez or the nugget will
likely be my next hotel. shuttles to the strip make it easy to get
around. took my wife to airport and went to play craps at bill's.
promptly won back the $400 i was down and I thank the heavens for the
good luck and good shooter that won it for me. flew back in time to
houston. best trip yet.
