Coming Home

I'm sure that this newsgroup is an inappropriate place to mention this, but I will anyway. When we lived in NC, my next door neighbor had a son and the boy grew up with my own kids. He was a good kid and a good neighbor. I cannot remember a time when Jim didn't want to be a Marine, as his Dad had been. He attended the Citadel and entered the Marine Corps right after graduation. After being stationed in the US for several years and gaining promotions, he was transferred to Iraq, where he was the Captain of a Marine company.
His folks and we have always maintained communication and some of his letters home were shared with us. In them, he always voiced his respect for his Marines and told tales about their training, encounters with insurgents and how hard his Marines worked. Well, he's now a Major and is being sent back home with his Marines, arriving at Camp Lejune this Wednesday. His company served with distinction, as did the young Major.
Oprah Winfrey heard about the homecoming and invited the Marines to be on her show this coming Wednesday, even sending a plane to NC to pick up the returning Marines that want to be her guests. He will be there and will be reunited with his wife and two children on the show, along with others. His folks are so proud of him they could bust, as is anyone else who knows him and what he's accomplished. If any of you have the chance to see Oprah on Wednesday, the tall, slender kid with the black hair will be the kid next door. Welcome him home.
