You surprise me. I tend to group teetotalers into two main groups: Abstinent
alcoholics and religious/moral abstainers. The first group, I've assumed,
have addictive personalities and wouldn't gamble while abstinent, and the
second group doesn't strike me as the gambling type (although now I think
about it, I've met quite a number of poker-playing Muslims).

I think it's rather ridiculous to think that "if you gamble then you
must be a drinker"... and to make blanket statements that its only
religious people and those with addictive personalities that dont
drink or gamble or do both at the same time is equally as silly.

Yes, there are those that frown upon gambling because of religion, but
there are those that just dont want to take the chance - its not worth
it to them, and not their idea of fun. By the same token there are
those that dont drink sheerly because they dont like the way they feel
when they drink, or dont like the taste of alcohol in general - not
necessarily a moral decision or one of 'self-preservation' with
regards to an addictive personality. And I know gamblers that dont
drink, and I know drinkers that dont gamble... Like someone else said
before, drinking and gambling together is probably not the best idea -
I know when I do it I lose my money WAY faster...but that is the whole
point and EXACTLY why casinos give alcoholic drinks for free to their
patrons... Ya know, I may even get a shoe shine when I go in April,
now that I think about it...
